Richardson Bay Algae Makes News

On Saturday, May 9, the popular NBC Bay Area show Open Road will air a segment on harmful algal blooms in San Francisco Bay that will feature photos from a Floating Times report of a massive algae bloom in June, 2020.

The episode follows scientists from the San Francisco Estuary Institute as they monitor the health of the bay. Traveling by boat to remote sensor stations, the researchers collect water quality data, track nutrient levels, and study the conditions that can lead to harmful algal blooms and fish kills. The segment will air on the 9th at 6:30pm, after which it will be posted on the show’s website.

Ironically, when Jen Gennari of Issaquah Dock and I collaborated on our 2020 report, we noted that local media had ignored that year’s algae invasion. Congratulations to Open Road for being on top of this occurrence.
