this update from Kate Sears—reprinted here it its entirety—explains:
I’m delighted to announce that our much loved Mill Valley-Sausalito Multiuse Pathway will have a fresh coat of smooth asphalt and accessibility improvements on almost a mile of pathway between East Blithedale Avenue and Almonte Boulevard by late 2017.
Bicyclists, pedestrians, users of the dog park, students, residents of The Redwoods, and people visiting from all over the county and beyond, make this the most heavily-used pathway in the entire Marin County Parks system. We’ve long desired and pressed for the funding to make these improvements possible. We are pleased that the County of Marin was awarded $320,000 of federal Priority Conservation Area funding, with a $320,000 local match provided by County Parks’ Measure A Fund, to bring this project to fruition.
The Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) will oversee the design and construction of the project. DPW aims to design and acquire environmental clearance this year for the work, which will include asphalt resurfacing and installation of new benches with accessible sitting areas.
I’ve heard from many of you along the way who’ve helped advocate for these improvements and am glad we are now able to move ahead and look forward to an improved pathway by late 2017.
In the meantime, take note of the many other improvements we’ve initiated along the multiuse pathway, including most recently fresh striping and stencils. The County of Marin (DPW), Marin County Parks, and Marin County Sheriff’s Office), the City of Mill Valley and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition are collaborating to improve access and safety along the pathway. This collaborative effort includes the Share the Path campaign, which promotes safety, communication and friendliness; regulatory changes including an enlarged “slow zone” of 10 mph adjacent to Bayfront Park; and increased enforcement of safety rules and regulations.
