Forecasts of heavy rains on Sunday have forced the FHA to postpone its Day in the Park celebration until spring.

Come one, come all—the Floating Homes Association (FHA) free Day in the Park, this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m, will showcase four musical groups and other entertainment, delicious food courtesy of local chefs, and information on floating home living and disaster preparedness. Weather permitting, this will all take place at the new park (sometimes referred to as Van Damme Park) in Waldo Point Harbor.

Emcee Heather Lerner of West Pier will introduce:

  • The legendary Joe Tate and Maggie Catfish
  • Gavin Smith Hot Clams Duo
  • Hauser featuring John Barnard and Merrily Weeber, and
  • Liberty Dock Guitar Trio with Jim Rettew, Nora Stratton and Jeff Payne

Heather will also oversee a dog costume contest and pet parade (BYO best–dressed pet). There’ll be return visits by the Bubble Guy, Firemaster, and Davey Jones serving up two types of chowder (bring your own bowl and utensils to cut down on waste).

In addition to the entertainment, the FHA will have an information table with advice on waterfront living, including emergency planning. The FHA Disaster Preparedness trailer will be open for tours, and a membership table will be offering a special discount on dues for new members through the following week: $29.75 for one year and $85 for 3 years.

FHA Vice President Pete Hudson and his organizing committee will meet Thursday, October 21, to check the weather forecast and determine whether the event will go on as scheduled. Check the FHA website for a final announcement.
