Did you know you can line the compost pail in your kitchen with BioBag compostable bags (or other compostable liners) to simplify transport and cleaning? Bagging green waste in compostable materials also keeps the collection bins cleaner and reduces odors.
Collection bins in Sausalito and Marin City are serviced by Bay Cities Refuse, which delivers green waste to a compost facility in West Contra Costa County. Unlike the compost facilities used by most of Marin County, this facility accepts BioBags and other compostable liners—if you don’t want to use BioBags, a detailed list of compostable items (including those that double as bins or liners, such as paper bags or old newspapers) is available on the Zero Waste Marin website at the link below.

The FHA’s environmental committee has made green practices a priority in our floating home community for years. For some further reading on how you can contribute to the community’s efforts, you can check out this post by Issaquah Dock’s Jen Gennari (though please note, as she does, that the rules do change, and it’s best to refer to the Zero Waste Marin website for current guidelines on what’s compostable and what’s not).
BioBags and other compostable bin liners can be purchased at Driver’s Market, Molly Stone’s, Walgreens in Tam Junction, Costco and other retailers as well as online.
