Everyone is invited to Waldo Point Park from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15 for live music from Joe Tate and Maggie Catfish, free food, and an opportunity to learn about the project to restore the paddle wheel and smokestack of the Charles Van Damme Ferry for permanent display in the park. Built in 1916 as the first ferry between Marin and Point Richmond, the Charles Van Damme has a rich history that includes 40 years as a working ferry and 25 years as the social hub of the Waldo Point waterfront. It was demolished in 1983 but a group of waterfront residents salvaged relics from the old ferry’s glory days.
