Earth Day: There’s a Marsh in Marin City?

Earth Day was celebrated around the Bay Area on April 22, and the Sausalito Woman’s Club, in partnership with others, organized cleanups throughout zip code 94965. One of the spots was the marsh in Marin City, the prone-to-flooding area sandwiched between 101 and Target.

At low tide and in boots, friends and families picked up plastic straws and bags, food wrappers, cans, and fabric scraps, filling many large trash bags. The organizers also cleared out abandoned encampments close to the freeway. The worst area was adjacent to 101, possibly because trash was blowing—or being thrown—from passing vehicles.

While everyone worked, ducks and shore birds enjoyed the marshy water.
