Alert Marin Keeps You Informed in an Emergency

reprinted from the December 16, 2016 Sausalito Currents

In January 2013, Marin County launched an improved version of the Alert Marin Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS). Local emergency officials use TENS to deliver incident-specific information or potentially life-saving instructions to the geographic areas that are affected.

Emergency situations that may trigger a TENS message include:

  • Flooding, wildfires, and subsequent evacuations
  • Public safety incidents including crimes that affect your neighborhood
  • Post-disaster information about shelters, transportation, or supplies

Alert Marin automatically sends emergency notifications to all Marin residents with a landline. To receive messages via cell phone, voice-over internet protocol (VoIP) telephone, work telephone or email, you must register for TENS via the Alert Marin website. Those who work in Marin are also eligible to register. Registrants must be 18 years of age or older.

You can opt out of the system at any time by removing your contact information from your profile.

If you need additional assistance, or if you have any questions, please contact the Southern Marin Fire Protection District at (415) 380-1100.
