Limited Seating for Houseboat History Talk

Joe Tate and Saul Rouda will provide firsthand accounts of the houseboat wars and other waterfront escapades on Saturday evening, August 26 at the Sausalito Cruising Club.

Here’s a preview of one of the stories these grizzled veterans will tell, about the Marin Sheriff’s attempt to confiscate Joe’s houseboat. The structure had been built on what is called a camel — a huge block of wood formerly used as a fender between battleships — and it was known as Joe’s Camel. In the accompanying still from Saul Rouda’s movie, a deputy directs a Coast Guard cutter into position.

A few seats are still available for this fundraiser for the Sausalito Historical Society, and advance reservations are required. There will be a no-host bar during the event and complimentary snacks will be served.
