Mari Steeno, co-chair (with Larry Clinton) of this year’s Floating Homes Tour, had the distinct pleasure of delivering the FHA donation to the Sausalito Village at their 3rd annual Members Art Show Opening.

On Sunday November 8, at the Sausalito City Council Chambers, some of our own floating home residents were amongst the 19 artists exhibiting. With a range of artworks that had felted wool (Flo Hoylman) cozying up to welded steel (Michael Sheats) and stoneware (Hillair Bell) cheek-by-jowl with enamel and glass on aluminum (Teddie Hathaway), our community was well-represented.

If the artworks (and artists) were the stars, the evening’s action took place in the adjacent library at the reception. SV volunteers provided an ample spread, while a string trio played in the background. With everyone gathered at the foot of the library stairs, the lights dimmed and SV President Tricia Smith stood together with Mari Steeno to deliver her speech to the packed reception. Following a heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers that sustain the non-profit Sausalito Village, and a shoutout to CARSS (Call A Ride for Sausalito Seniors), Smith then capped her speech by graciously accepting the FHA check from Steeno.

While the tour is our biggest fundraiser, and the 2015 Tour our most successful to date, it has been our tradition to share net proceeds from the tour with local non-profits who help with the tour by providing volunteers. This year’s check for $3,300 to the Sausalito Village represents 5% of the net tour income. An identical donation will be made to the Friends of the Marin City Library some time later in the year. Both SV and FMCL have been steady supporters of the tour for the last several years. Quid pro quo.

The 3rd Annual Members’ Art Show, at the Sausalito City Hall Council Chambers, runs through November 25. 420 Litho Street, Sausalito.
