Pierre Valeille, a Memorable Man

Poster and post by Judyth Greenburg

On Thursday Dec 4th at around 10:30 am, on the biggest super moon, Pierre passed away naturally and peacefully on the sofa reading the news on his iPad with Stanley by his side.

He had kidney and heart failure and was given days, weeks, maybe up to 3 months to live, but he defied the odds and lived a full active life for over 11 months.

Pierre Marie Denis Edmond Abouly-Valeille was born in Paris, France, son of Christian Abouly and Denise Valeille, oldest brother to Françoise and Frederick, father to Natasha and grandfather to Alexander. He moved to the UK, had Natasha with Liz in Hackney where they were both part of the 70’s counterculture, met Judyth in Camden 32 years ago and stayed married to her for 27 years.

He was a French teacher, kitchen designer for chefs, a deck hand for the Blue & Gold fleet and captain with Bay Adventures. A French-American, he lived in France, England, the Netherlands and the USA. (San Francisco, Sausalito, Big Sur and Darwin CA). He travelled the world, to Greece by motorcycle, sailed to Hawaii from Sausalito on a 32-foot sailboat and could navigate any vessel or vehicle without getting lost.

He was a philosopher, anarchist, activist, soccer enthusiast and epicurean, loving the good things in life, like listening to Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead on vinyl and whistling when he cooked.

He loved motorbikes and cars especially his white 1988 911 Porsche Carrera.

Passionate and loyal, he had charisma, didn’t mince his words and lived his life without compromise.

He passing has left a big hole in our hearts but a great deal of good memories and stories to share.

The ‘I did it My Way’ Celebration of Pierre tour will be coming to a city or a country near you. Stay tuned for more details.
