Not the Usual Sausalito Herring Festival
End of January is the time to celebrate our local herring! In a departure from the expected, this year’s Sausalito Herring event is a fundraiser for the Sausalito Community Boating Center (SCBC) at Cass Gidley Marina. The rain-or-shine outdoor festival, as we’ve come to know it, will return in 2018.
The 2017 SCBC Herring Celebration will feature a screening of “Of The Sea“, a local award-winning film by Mischa Hedges about fishermen, seafood and ocean sustainability. The event will also include a talk with the filmmakers, a brief presentation on the SCBC at Cass Gidley Marina project, and of course tasty herring dishes from some of your favorite local restaurants. Beverages including wine and beer will also be offered. This event is a fundraiser for Phase I of renovating the SCBC site at Cass Gidley Marina, which is expected to begin in the spring.

About of the Sea: today, fishing is a rare and challenging way of life.
Few fishing families remain, due to complex regulations, high cost and competition with cheap farmed and imported seafood. OF THE SEA is a feature documentary that tells the story of five California fishermen and shows how our seafood choices can influence ocean sustainability. RUN TIME: 82 MINUTES
