Dwell Features South 40 Home

The Seneca as it appeared in the FHA Virtual Gala and Tour |  photo from FHA  |  post by Larry Clinton

A spectacularly remodeled floating home on South 40 Pier is profiled in the August issue of Dwell Magazine. The Seneca, which was featured in the FHA’s 2021 Virtual Gala and Tour, is owned by Marka Hansen and Joe Brubaker, who teamed with Sausalito designer Michelle Chan and Steve Crutchfield of True North Construction on the extensive renovation.

Dwell notes: “the harbor draws contemporary creatives and professionals — like Marka, a retail executive and the former president of Gap Inc North America and Banana Republic, and Joe, a Bay Area sculptor.”

As designer Chan puts it, “Each houseboat is a unicorn, an expression of its owner’s personality” Chan, who grew up in Sausalito, adds, “As a local, I believe the surroundings and history dictate an authenticity and soul that can’t just be skin deep. You can’t find a better setting than the Sausalito piers, so we focused the design on nature and the amazing view.”
