HERE ARE SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT WERE DISCUSSED AT THE MAR 11 FHA BOARD MEETING. MORE DETAILS WILL BE REPORTED LATER IN THE FLOATING TIMES.
FHA Events Chair BettyAnn Kram and ex-President Pete Hudson reported that 140 reservations had been made for the March 15 Annual Meeting. Next week the Floating Times will carry a full report on the meeting.
Treasurer Linda Futrell reported that February ended with a net loss of $3,378.77. Cash on hand is now $14,445.65.
Legislative Action Committee Chair Sasha Cole reported that a tentative agreement has been reached with four marinas on amendments to the Floating Homes Residency Law. The next step will be to present the proposed agreement to residents at a series of dock meetings. The purpose of the meetings will be to give everyone a chance to ask questions, or express concerns on the proposal. Then in April the LAC plans to poll residents and absentee owners to determine whether the proposed amendment meets with their approval. Assemblymember Damon Connolly must see substantial support for the proposal in order to introduce it into legislation. The LAC is preparing a background document for residents and owners to read prior to the dock meetings.
FHA President Peter Miller announced that the Board continues to seek a chair for the Private Tour Committee. This is a crucial need because private tours are a major funding source for the FHA. If you’re interested in helping, please contact Peter.
Pete Hudson has posted a guide on the FHA website to help people activate or update their membership status.
Environmental chair Joe Novitski noted that the Bay Conservation and Development Commission has changed focus and has become the clearing house and permitting authority for sea level rise planning within its jurisdiction.
Thanks to Janelle Kellman, former Sausalito mayor and former council member, the city got a state grant to create a Sustainability Commission which is working on a Shoreline Adaptation Plan to cope with anticipated sea level rise. Sausalito Resiliency & Sustainability Manager Catie Thow Garcia will include the floating homes community within the scope of the Commission’s work and plans to add a liaison from the unincorporated area of Zip Code 94965. FHA Vice President Alex Shoer advised that he and Wilford Welch (Kappas East) have offered to join the Sustainability Commission. Next week, the Floating Times will recap Catie’s presentation at the FHA Annual Meeting.
Joe also noted that he had finally received a response to his inquiry regarding plans to raise Gate 6 Road to mitigate flooding and was told there is no plan. He advised that the FHA should support the Sausalito Commission and ask them to get the county on board with this pressing need.
BettyAnn, Pete Hudson, and Peter Miller have met with Bill Price, Waldo Point Harbormaster, to begin discussing plans for Day in the Park, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 18. Volunteers will be needed for the event.
