Rent increases upon sale of a floating home are under discussion | photo and post by Larry Clinton
HERE ARE SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT WERE DISCUSSED AT THE FEB 11 FHA BOARD MEETING. MORE DETAILS WILL BE REPORTED LATER IN THE FLOATING TIMES.
Treasurer Linda Futrell reported that January ended with a loss of $1,680.09. Cash on hand at month end was $17,790.42.
The Board unanimously agreed that the annual meeting this year would include a luncheon at the Bay Model on March 15. Events chair BettyAnn Kram is making arrangements. [link to story]. Save the Date notices will be sent and distributed throughout the community.
Larry Clinton (Gate 6 ½ dock rep) introduced Blaise Simpson, a 25-year resident of the dock, to review plans to increase the outflow of storm water buildup from Marin City to the detriment of our community. The Board agreed to form a working group to attend the various stormwater outflow meetings under the FHA auspices; the working group will include Larry, Blaise, Felicity Gordon (Gate 6 ½), and Mickey Allison from Issaquah Dock. Larry welcomed others to join the group.
FHA VP Alex Shoer suggested that the Board should encourage dock reps to get their concerns/issues heard in the FHA Board Meetings. Peter and Alex will present a formal proposal at the March FHA Board Meeting.
Public Relations and Marketing chair Julie Durbin is stepping down from her advertising responsibilities and transitioning her focus to community relations in greater Sausalito by attending Chamber mixers and other Sausalito events to build community relations. Larry stressed that the Board needs to find another person to take on the advertising responsibilities as this is one of the major sources of FHA income. Annual contracts and renewals will need to be followed up on.
Pete Hudson and Lynn Lester are working to get dock reps a list of FHA members and those who have joined our website platform — 145 FHA members still have not joined the Member Planet platform. The reps will also get contact information for non-FHA members for recruitment purposes.
At the March 11 FHA Board meeting Pete and webmaster Stanton will answer questions about the website and report on how it will be managed going forward.
Larry reported that the Legislative Action Committee (LAC) had reached an agreement with Waldo Point Harbor regarding a rent cap of .15% of sales price on sale of a floating home. It was determined this would be excessive for higher value boats so the LAC proposed various options for a firm ceiling cap which would be the lesser of .15% and an amount to be determined. To date, the marinas have not agreed on a formula with a firm rent cap upon sale of a home. The LAC continues to pursue negotiations in hopes of getting the Floating Homes Residency Law amended this year.
