Two waterfront legends will be sharing tales of local hippie history on August 26 at the Sausalito Cruising Club.
Saul Rouda, producer of the docudrama Last Free Ride, and Joe Tate, star of the movie and leader of the notorious Redlegs pirate band, will share footage from Saul’s films and excerpts from Joe’s book, Last Voyage of the Redlegs, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Last Free Ride covers the drama of Sausalito’s houseboat wars in the mid-70s, and the exploits of The Redlegs, house band on the scuttled Charles Van Damme ferry. Joe’s book picks up where the movie leaves off, with some recollections overlapping the movie material.
Joe promises: “The book and movie both contain adventure, romance and violence.”
Last Free Ride may be viewed online. Joe will sell signed copies of his book at the Cruising Club, and it can also be ordered in advance.
Seating is limited at this fundraiser for the Sausalito Historical Society, and advance reservations are required. There will be a no-host bar during the event and complimentary snacks will be served.
