Have you noticed the new exit sign when you come off Rt. 101 North to the Sausalito/Marin City exit?
Most exits from freeways in California have an exit number — for Rt. 101 it is determined by the number of miles from the start of the route at the California/Mexico border. As a result, if you are coming south on Rt. 101 you will see that the Marin City / Sausalito exit is Exit 445 A. But until now, if you were coming north on Rt. 101 the sign just read Sausalito/Marin City.
Brad Hathaway of East Pier recently wrote to CalTrans — which is responsible for all the signage on highways in the state — to request that the offramp that serves our community from the south be given an exit number as well. He got a surprisingly rapid reply. And it was positive!
CalTrans has now placed ‘Exit 445’ on the sign at the exit from 101 North and Hathaway hopes that they will also add the exit number to the overhead signs at 2 3/4 miles and 3/4 mile before the exit, as well as an overhead sign at the exit.
So, now when you give directions to the floating homes community, you can tell visitors “If coming from the south over the Golden Gate Bridge, take exit 445. If coming from the north on Rt. 101, take exit 445A.”
