On Saturday, June 4, the Southern Marin Fire Protection District will conduct a voluntary emergency evacuation drill in the MLK Park area just off Coloma, west of Bridgeway.
The evacuation drill will help first responders assess the issues that may arise if an evacuation becomes necessary due to a disaster such as a wildfire, earthquake, or tsunami.
The drill will begin at 1:00 p.m. with an activation of the Alert Marin system, an opt-in reverse 9-1-1 dialing system that can be used to alert residents in the event of an emergency. Calls will automatically go to landline telephones in the evacuation area. Sign up to receive alerts via smartphone, text message, or email on the Alert Marin website.
When residents receive the alert, they will be asked to fetch their grab and go bags and evacuate by foot or bicycle to a temporary refuge area at 610 Coloma Street in MLK Park. Fire district personnel will be on hand at the refuge area to answer questions and give advice on disaster preparedness.
Any questions about the voluntary evacuation drill may be directed to Southern Marin Fire. A second Sausalito drill will be held on Saturday, June 25 for the Spencer/Cloud View Park evacuation area.
This is a great opportunity to learn directly from our fire district about community safety and disaster preparedness in your neighborhood.
