TO KEEP EVERYONE UP TO DATE ON WHAT THE FHA BOARD IS DOING, HERE ARE SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT WERE DISCUSSED OR DECIDED AT THE November BOARD MEETING:
President Michael Labate said that he will attend the City of Sausalito meeting about the Marinship Vision Statement and report back. Our community relies on many of the marine services and businesses in the Marinship District.
The board unanimously approved the election of dock representatives. They are:

The new membership chairs are Jill Sherman and Lisa McNelley, both from Main Dock. Dock Lists were distributed to all dock reps.
The board discussed the successful Day in the Park, held Oct. 20 (this post, and the above photos, by Jen Gennari). It was a beautiful day; about 100 people attended. The event cost $1300 and Linda Sempliner reported we added 33 new and renewing members. Flo Hoylman noted that she had many educational conversations about how plumbing works in a floating home. President Michael Labate suggested we offer the party twice per year. Next year, the event will be scheduled to start later in the day; the 10 a.m. start was too early for a Sunday. Jen Gennari noted that in-person conversations are key to spreading the word.
The FHA meetings are scheduled for 2020 at 7 p.m., second Tuesdays, in the same room: the Community Room, Public Safety Building, Marin City.

Emergency Preparedness Chair Flo Hoylman compiled a rough draft of lessons learned from about 100 people who responded to a request after the latest outage. The key to preparedness comes down to waste management. Pete Hudson announced that WPH has purchased a generator for running the pumps to evacuate the collector tanks at the ends of the docks. (Not individual homes’ tanks.) A subcommittee will pull together an action plan with Bill Price of WPH, meet with Ken Watsey of Kappas, and get buy-in from the Sausalito Marin City Sanitary District. Teddie Hathaway reports that the sanitary district board was not aware of how our plumbing works; they have been invited to the January 14 meeting. Stefan Krug made the case to continue advocating for our community with PG&E.
Environmental Chair Jen Gennari announced that the citizen scientist yardstick project to gather data on sea level rise and storm surge at each dock will happen again in 2020. The dates for the King Tides are Jan. 10-12 and Feb. 8-9. She also noted that our docks (piers) are aging, and that we should switch to floating docks, similar to Van Damme dock. Pete Hudson reports that the leak on Liberty was because the saltwater is corroding the brackets holding up the fire lines containing pressurized water.
