Wherever you go this holiday season, there’ll be plenty of local art to enjoy. Here’s a sampling of art events scheduled in and around Sausalito:
Now Through November 24: Intergenerational Art Show at Sausalito Center for the Arts (SCA). The featured young artists are students at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy. The featured senior artists either live in or have studio space in the 94965 zip code. Among those featured artists are Michele Harris, Bruce Thomas and Teddie Hathaway from Kappas East, plus Don Lytle of Main Dock and Michele Affronte from Liberty. SCA is located at 750 Bridgeway in downtown Sausalito.
December 5: Spaulding Marine Center will host its annual Winter Open House from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome at the historic shipyard for a family–friendly gathering featuring live music from the Dirt Farm Duo, food and drink for purchase, and an art market with local artists and artisans. Spaulding Marine Center is located at 600 Gate 5 Road in the Marinship district.
December 6—8: Kicking off with an evening reception from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, the ICB Winter Open Studios will be open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Parking and admission are free. The historic ICB is home to over 100 artists creating fine art in various mediums, including photography, fiber, painting, printmaking, jewelry, drawing, sculpture, and new media. The ICB building is located at 480 Gate 5 Road in Sausalito. East Pier resident Carolyn LeCoque will have her studio open; drop by and see her works in mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, wood, and fiber.
December 7—8: Gate 5 Clay will host a holiday party and sale from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Among the featured artists are Donna Bragg of South 40 Pier and Hilair Bell, who lived on South 40 for many years.
Saturday, December 14: Sausalito Center for the Arts (SCA) will host a winter marketplace from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. featuring the creations of more than 25 local artisans, artists, and businesses, including national brands like Heath Ceramics and Botnia Skincare.
Saturday, December 14: The Sausalito Library’s Second Saturdays Family Storytime and Art program will get underway inside the library at 2:00 p.m. with a story for children ages 0 to 5+ read by Children’s Librarian Riva Pollard. After storytime, the Children’s Room will be set up with mess-free art projects for kids of all ages.
