On July 9 the California Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to approve AB 754, covering rent control amendments to the Floating Homes Residency Law.

Assemblymember Damon Connolly and Marin County Legislative Analyst Talia Smith testified that the proposed amendments had been approved by five Sausalito floating home marinas and 93% of residents responding to an FHA poll. At this point, the bill has no opposition.

The session can be viewed on the Senate’s website. The brief discussion of AB 754 starts at 7:02:13, and is capped by Republican Senator Roger Niello of Fair Oaks stating: “This will be the first rent control bill I have ever supported… With everybody agreeing, it’s hard to say no.”

Talia Smith, who has been involved in every step of the 2-1/2-year development of this legislation, told the Floating Times, “The Legislature is now on its 3-week summer recess, and we are going to work on a floor vote once it returns.”
