The lead article in Monday’s Marin IJ announces the introduction of our amended rent control legislation.
Reporter Richard Halstead explains how the original rent control law was conceived and how some provisions were unsuitable for floating home marinas in Marin. He goes on to detail the lengthy negotiations between the FHA’s Legislative Action Committee (LAC) and marina owners to iron out amendments both sides could agree on. He quotes Assemblymember Damon Connolly, who has introduced a new bill (AB 754) containing the amendments:
“AB 754 is the result of nearly three years of extensive, on-the-ground work in Marin County — dozens of meetings, a comprehensive public process led by the Floating Homes Association, and a significant investment of time by residents, marinas and county staff.”
The LAC recently circulated an email containing letters of support for the amendments from the Marin County Board of Supervisors and the FHA, requesting that individual residents add their own letters of support for the consideration of legislators who will be voting on AB 754 in the coming months.
If you haven’t already submitted a letter, there’s still time. If you need another copy of that email, contact the editor. These letters will be posted in a Position Letter portal where members of the Legislature and relevant committees will see them. Talia Smith, the county’s legislative director, has offered to post these letters to the Portal, so they should be emailed to her at Talia.Smith@marincounty.gov as PDF attachments.
