Water and Wood at Bolinas Gallery

Hollow form from all natural spalted alder wood by Tomas Ludlam  |  post by Larry Clinton

Issaquah Dock artisan Tomas Ludlam will present his woodturning pieces at the Bolinas Gallery from June 5—29 along with photographer Joshua Klein. Klein, the nephew of ex-FHA secretary Candice Gold, met Ludlam on Issaquah, and their joint exhibition will allow a unique dialogue of form and texture.

A third generation Californian and master woodworker, Ludlam has spent five decades honing his craft. Working with the colors, grain of the woods, shapes and understanding them is what gives the wood a new life. He feels that working on the lathe creates an “unrepeatable understanding between the artist and the wood at the most intimate level, making each piece unique.”

Klein brings a unique and soulful eye to his black-and-white photography. Water, in all its forms, has been chosen as a thread that unites work from California, France and Cuba. From the dew on a wildflower to the crashing waves of the Pacific, Klein delights in the play of light that this most essential element brings.

The Bolinas Gallery, at 52 Wharf Rd. next door to the Bolinas Museum, is open Thursday—Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
