The Southern Marin Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their neighborhood and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. Trained CERTs also have opportunities to volunteer and assist in local community events.
The CERT program offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.
The 20 hour training is available from age 16 and up and is currently available in both a hybrid and in-person format. You can register for a class by email. The FHA will reimburse residents who graduate from these courses. Dozens of current dock residents have been CERT-ified over the years and more are welcome.
