Get Rid of Your Old Electronics at sausalito’s 8th Annual E-Waste Event
Dispose of electronic waste the right way! The City of Sausalito Sustainability Commission, Bay Cities Refuse Service, and Conservation Corps North Bay are sponsoring their eighth annual e-waste collection event on Saturday, January 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot off of Bee Street. Residents and businesses are invited to drop off obsolete and broken electronics at the event.
The following types of e-waste will be collected, free of charge:
- Fax machines
- Networking equipment
- Printed circuit boards
- Cellular phones
- Flat screens
- DVD players
- Other consumer electronics
Please note that light bulbs and batteries will not be accepted at the e-waste event. There is a receptacle for battery recycling in the main hallway of Sausalito City Hall.
Old electronics may also be brought to the Marin Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 565 Jacoby Street in San Rafael. Hours for residential drop-off are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The facility also accepts other types of household hazardous waste, including motor oil, paint, propane cylinders, batteries, and light bulbs.
The e-waste collected on January 12 will be shredded and mechanically separated into the primary commodities of steel, aluminum, copper, and plastic for use in the manufacture of new products. No e-waste will go to landfill or be exported in e-waste form. At last year’s collection event, approximately 7,500 lbs. of e-waste was recycled and kept out of landfill.
Any questions about the e-waste event may be directed to Senior Civil Engineer Andrew Davidson at email@example.com or (415) 289-4180.
