Herring Spawning Up Our Way

Although the commercial herring season got off to a slow start, the Department of Fish and Wildlife has reported that a herring spawn started over the weekend of January 15, primarily in the mooring field and the waters adjacent to Dunphy Park.

The DFW noted that a moderate sized herring school was detected near Yellow Bluff, south of Sausalito, and predicted: “These fish will likely move into the area as the spawning continues over the next couple of days.”

That prediction came true on Sunday the 20th, when I was able to take the accompanying photo from our bedroom window.
