Help Filing Taxes

The AARP is offering no-fee tax filing services this tax season.  Membership in AARP is not required, and the service is available to any person, any age who wants to file a Federal and California tax return.

All you need to do is show up at any location between the hours listed and sign in on the sheet provided at the location. Be sure to have all of your tax forms, information, and picture ID with you. Taxpayers are taken from the list in order – there may be a wait. There are no reserved times available because it isn’t possible to predict how long a tax return will take.  Best to go as soon as possible to avoid the rush just before this year’s filing deadline: April 17

Very complicated returns involving partnerships, estate settlements, rental income, or other specific tax-regulated situations are beyond the scope of this service. Returns can be completed for taxpayers with social security, retirement, or pension income, brokerage statements, W-2 income, or simple self-employment that doesn’t involve merchandise sales.

Returns are filed electronically. The taxpayer will receive a printed copy of the return and all forms. AARP retains no information regarding the individual.

If you are due a refund and want it directly deposited to your bank, please bring a voided check that shows bank routing and account numbers.

The nearest Southern Marin location is the Mill Valley Community Center, 180 Camino Alto (reachable by the Mill Valley bike path).  It is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-1:00 PM until April 18.
